Many of us will be arriving early or staying a few days later than the scheduled class trip. Beyond the start-up scene and first hand winery experience, a couple websites suggest additional things to check out. Some notable attractions that I did not think of prior to reading the article include:
- Microbreweries and brewpubs: There is a growing beer and microbrewery scene in Chile, possibly stemming from a mix of German heritage. Suggested breweries include: Szot Microbrewery and Cerveza artesanal Leyenda with tours offered of the brewery itself.
- Bellavista: Good for either a night out with its engaging nightlife or during the day with the offering from the Bellavista Market including street art and hand made crafts. The article mentions that this is a high tourist area, so be careful not to carry valuables with you.
- Santiago’s Art Museums: Including Museo Bellas Artes – hosting Chile’s contemporary art, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo also houses some of the great contemporary art and Museo Ralli. These museums are noted to be quite impressive, even featuring some of Salvador Dali’s original sculptures. The Artequin is another attractive museum, which displays replicas of the world’s masterpieces, such as Van Gogh’s Starry Night.
