I came across this article while researching more about Chile and it really interested me because of how unique this startup company is and that it has the possibility to be make such a positive change. Algramo is using vending machines to lower food costs by selling food to customers without as much packaging, promotion, and other costs that the grocery stores have to pay to sell the products and then pass on to customers. I was really struck by this article because food shortages and people going hungry is a global problem so it was really interesting to read about people in Chile are combatting these types of problems.
This unique business idea really struck me as innovative because it took existing technology and applied it to solve a problem. They did not have to reinvent the wheel to be entrepreneurs or create social change. The potential social good that this company can achieve is really exciting and interesting to me especially because I spent some time visiting a poor area outside of Guayaquil, Ecuador a few years ago and I know that this type of machine would make a huge difference to that community where families struggled to buy food and many other basic goods. Hopefully Algramo can continue to grow and provide more access to food to lower income communities in order to combat poverty and hunger.
